What is the Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

Don't have insurance? Don't have a lot of money? Learn how you can qualify for a Government Program to cover dental procedures

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will help ease financial barriers to accessing oral health care for eligible Canadian residents who: have an annual adjusted family net income of less than $90,000 and don't have access to dental insurance. Unlike previous programs, the CDCP ensures that no Canadian is left without access to vital dental services due to financial constraints. It is designed to promote overall oral health and well-being across the nation, fostering healthier smiles and happier lives for all.

Do I qualify?

To qualify for the CDCP, you must:

• not have access to dental insurance
• have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
• be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
• have filed your tax return in the previous year

When can I see the dentist?

The welcome package you receive will include the date you can start seeing an oral health provider. Appointments can only be scheduled on or after that date for the eligible oral health care services to be covered under the plan.

What dental services are covered?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will help cover a wide range of oral health care services that:

• keep your teeth and gums healthy
• prevent and treat oral health care issues and diseases

Examples of services that could be covered under the CDCP when recommended by an oral health provider, include:

• Preventive services, including scaling (cleaning), polishing, sealants, and fluoride
• Diagnostic services, including examinations and x-rays
• Restorative services, including fillings
• Endodontic services, including root canal treatments
• Prosthodontic services, including complete and partial removable dentures
• Periodontal services, including deep scaling
• Oral surgery services, including extractions
